After deciding to sell their zoo in India and move to Canada, Santosh and Gita Patel travel in a cargo ship with their children and some animals. A terrible storm sinks the ship, leaving Pi, the son of the Patel, as the only human survivor. However, Pi is not alone; A fearsome bengal tiger accompanies him in the lifeboat. Days become weeks and months, and Pi and the tiger must learn to trust each other to survive.
